Details

The museum “Racconti in Pietra” offers a child-friendly journey through time, telling a part of the ancient history of the Murgia and Matera area in a fresh and innovative way. Get ready to meet dinosaurs, the whale Giuliana, and the footprints of creatures from other eras. Inside the museum, fossils from different geological periods are displayed, impressed or embedded in the tuff stone, along with a reproduction of part of the skeleton of large cetaceans such as the whale “Giuliana”, discovered in 2006 on the shores of the San Giuliano dam, just a few kilometers from Matera. These are some of the finds hosted at the “Racconti in Pietra” Museum of Paleontology and Geology of the Territory, created by private individuals in an underground space in the Sasso Caveoso. The museum also uses new technologies in the service of cultural heritage (interactive plastic and 3D floors, models, audio guides) together with real fossils.
